Lariat Wreath

Image
I wanted to incorporate the Star in Ring into a Christmas wreath and was going to use green garland, but decided to use a lariat rope instead. I tied the rope onto the ring with leather lace and tied on horseshoes and a spur. This looked kind of messy to me. So I took everything off and started again. I wrapped the rope with jute twine at the top and on each side and tied it tight. It is holding the Star in Ring at the top of the rope. I stuck Small Star Nails into the twine and you may want to add some hot glue. The tasseled rope at the top was from another project and I placed it behind the star nail. Add a little glue here too. It is just a piece of lariat rope unraveled and wrapped with leather lace. I added a burlap bow with pine cones to the bottom. Leave that off for year round and decorate for other holidays accordingly. Have fun!

Lariat with Frames

Image
When I first wake up in the morning ideas pop into my head. That was the case with this idea. I thought of attaching frames to a piece of lariat rope but found that there are several different ways to do this. I started with the loop end at the top and attached inexpensive frames with a brad nail gun. I was going to cut the rope at the bottom and tassel it. Instead I just hung the remainder of the rope on the top frame. Not bad, but I wanted to try something else. Beginning at the tassel end I doubled enough rope for the frames and tassel at the end. To hold it together I wrapped leather lace at the top, leaving enough for a loop for hanging. I wrapped leather lace at the bottom leaving enough for unraveling into a large double tassel. I attached the frames and hung it on the wall. The rope tended to curve so I nailed in Mini Star Nails to keep it straight and against the wall. I attached the remainder of the rope at the top with leather lace. You could decorate this for the...

Horseshoe Welcome Sign

Image
I picked up the cast iron Horseshoe Welcome Sign and placed it on a weathered board. I thought of putting a Tiny Horseshoe on each side, but decided to use Tiny Stars . I painted the stars to match the sign and screwed everything into the board with brown screws from the hardware store. I was going to stop right there, and I thought of hanging the sign with an old rusty chain. Instead, I took a piece of lariat rope and nailed it to the back. I wrapped leather lacing on each end leaving about 6 inches for a tassel, and begin the task of unraveling the rope, which takes quite a while. I wrapped a little lace on the top also. You can have fun with this. The kids can paint the stars and unravel the rope. Just place some wax paper on the table and use dark brown acrylic paint, let dry and add a little black.

Fall Lariat Wreath

Image
This was super easy! I put a zip tie on the top to hold the rope together and left enough room to slide in fall foliage. A burlap bow and deer antler were attached with wire. Here's an easy Fall Arrangement to make. I had the rectangle basket just sitting there empty waiting for something to do. I set in a $1.99 pumpkin from the grocery store, stuck in the same fall foliage and burlap bow. Have fun!

Custom Lariat Basket

Image
This is a custom lariat basket made for a customer to give as a wedding gift. I burned the design into leather and epoxied the leather to the bottom of the basket. Three different colors of rope were used. Starting at the bottom: tan, red, green, tan, red and green at the top. Each time I changed color of rope I had to splice the two different ropes together. On one color change instead of splicing I started the next color rope with the tassel end. The basket ends at the top with a tassel. The customer wanted tan, then red for the desert, then sage. I had already thought of that. The tan for the earth below, the red for the desert, and sage for the plants above. Perfect for a desert style basket for a customer in Arizona!

Lariat Rope Wreath

Image
Making a wreath with a Lariat Rope is easy. Use wire to tie on greenery. I watched a few videos on the internet on how to make a burlap bow. The red stripe is on one side of the burlap ribbon so when I made the bow I twisted each loop so that the stripe showed on the outside. Then I tied on boot ornaments from the dollar store. You could decorate a rope in a multitude of ways and colors for any holiday or occasion.
