When I saw a picture of horseshoes and hooks welded together for a coat rack, the idea came to me that I could screw our Small Coat Hooks into Large Horseshoes to make Horseshoe Hooks. I placed a Small Coat Hook on the bottom of a Large Horseshoe and made marks for drilling the holes. Clamp your horseshoe on the drill press. Use a 9/64" bit and drill holes for the hooks and enlarge two top holes in each horseshoe. I drilled 4 horseshoes. I had a piece of pecan left over from my kitchen bar and even though it's cracked I screwed the horseshoes and hooks into it. Dry wall screws (#6x1") are perfect for this project. Since a friend showed me a bamboo Lazy Susan she picked up at a garage sale, I've been wanting to make one. The Lazy Susan has many uses and are great for holiday gatherings. First, I looked around for a bearing kit and found the Lazy Susan Slimline here . It has easy to follow instructions. I wanted it thin for a low profile and this is 7/64" thick and 12 5/8" wide. I chose pecan left over from my kitchen bar for the top piece. Scraps of mahogany were used for the bottom piece. Plane down the pieces to the desired thickness. These are planed to 9/16" thick. Glue the pieces together and clamp. Let dry overnight. Draw the desired size circle on both pieces and cut out on a band saw. The top piece is 16 1/2" wide and the bottom piece is 13 1/4" wide. On the bottom side of the bottom piece drill a 9/16" wide hole 1/8" deep using a Forstner bit. This was done on the drill press. Drill a 5/16...

I found this reproduction ox yoke and later found these small parchment shades. I wanted to make an ox yoke light. Old ox yokes are used in many ways for home décor. Here it is used for a support on a table. Here is an ox yoke coat rack and there are many styles of ox yoke lighting. When I bought the shades, I didn't think about the fact that this clip-on style wouldn't work with this fixture, so I improvised by unlacing the shade and taking out the ring and clip. I cut the clip from the ring and braised on a plate. Not pretty, but it works. Now I can screw the shade onto a threaded tube, which is commonly used in lighting. I used my wood burning tool to etch running horses and a longhorn on each end. I used rustic 1" Hammered Nails to decorate the yoke. For this project I turned an old cabinet door from my kitchen remodel into a beautiful colorful Serape Arrow Coat Rack! Here is what the cabinet door looked like originally. I sanded down the door. It's ugly now, but will become beautiful! A smaller drawer panel became my practice piece. I tried to find serape fabric or serape wrapping paper with no luck, so I decided to find a photo of a serape blanket on the internet and print it out on a large format printer. I cut the photo to fit onto the drawer panel and after painting a thin coat of Mod Podge, I placed it on the panel. I smoothed it out with my fingers and a brayer. After it had dried I added a coat of Mod Podge in matte finish. I drew an arrow on 1/4" plywood and cut it out on the scroll saw. I cut out a second one and painted both arrows coordinating acrylic paint colors. After it dried I sanded a little paint off, then brushed on a coat of Mod Podge. I saw a picture on the internet of a horseshoe and spur that held a drapery rod. I thought, we've got horseshoes and spurs, so why not put them together and make this! Since I don't weld, I had to be creative. With the drill press, I drilled a hole at the bottom of the Large Horseshoe and used the grinder to smooth down a place for the spur. This spur was used in a previous project for a curtain tie back. I cut off the strap holder on one side with a hack saw and smoothed it down with a grinder, then drilled a hole with the drill press. The size of the hole depends on what size screw you're going to use. I inserted a screw, put a nut on the back, and spray painted it black. You could use this for a gun rack, hat hook, coat hook, or bridle hook. I think it looks great! Add the spur curtain tie back and you have a set! This would look great in a western themed bedroom or great room!
