Western Cutouts

Image
Western cutouts are great fun and they can be used in so many ways. I drew and cut them out of plywood on a scroll saw. You can cut them out of cardboard, leather or thick paper. You can paint or stain them and then you can: Glue them to a skewer to stick in flower arrangements. Drill a hole in each and add jute to make ornaments. Glue them to boxes or frames. Make Garland. Drill a hole if it's wood or leather and make a key fob. Attach a hook to display on your saddle. It doesn't have to be western. You can make any shape you want, such as Christmas cutouts. Choose your theme, cut out your shapes and create!

Horse Bit Candles

Image
Here's two ways to use horse bits in your décor. If you have some old bits laying around in your tack room this is a fun thing to do. I wrapped a D-ring snaffle around a flameless pillar candle and tied leather lacing to hold it together. I was looking at an old curb bit I had and stood it on it's side and of course, it's a candle holder! But this one wasn't too steady so I built a stand out of mahogany and drilled holes for the candles and a hole in the bit to screw it to the wood. Here's a different version of the leather wrapping. You could use twine, ribbon or anything you've got. I think it would be pretty to add greenery for the holidays. Use it for a center piece for parties, holidays or weddings.

Tiny Horseshoe Hangers

Image
Paint your Tiny Horseshoes and glue on leather, jute, or ribbon. Super glue works well on the leather but not the jute. For jute use hot glue or any multipurpose glue. Tie in a square knot. I thought these would be cute for a horse themed baby shower. Give them as party favors or use for decoration. These horseshoe hangers are fun to make for kids and adults. Here's my attempt at Southwest style. Wedding Horseshoes for favors or decoration. Glue on some bling. I took this string from a gift bag. Gold Horseshoe with plain jute twine. Native American style horseshoe in which I tied on leather and beads. You could give any of these as gifts and write a message on the back with a permanent marker. You could say 'Good Luck!' for one who starts a new job.

July 4th Candle Holder

Image
Time to get ready for July 4th or Memorial Day! I used one of the pallet wood candle holders . A 2 1/8" Forstner bit was used to drill the hole for a candle, flameless candle or glass votive. The hole was drilled 1" deep. I painted the top navy blue with little white stars. On the sides I painted the stripes several different ways until I settled on quirky. Small holes were drilled in the top corners for the mini star nails like in this previous post . The star nails were painted white. I found a star bandana, which I haven't been able to find since, and tied it around the wood. This would be cute for a table center piece for parties. This item can be purchased on the website: Candle Holder for July 4th
